Ninja Creami basics

A Creami does not freeze anything. You freeze a base solid in its pint, then the machine drives a spinning paddle down through the block to shave it into ice cream, sorbet or a shake. The program sets how it spins.

Freeze
24 hours, level, below the MAX line
Freezer, per Ninja
between -7 F and 9 F

Every Creami routine is the same: mix the base, pour it into the pint no higher than the MAX line, lid it and freeze it level for 24 hours. Ninja's guidance is a freezer between -7 F and 9 F; colder freezers make harder blocks that tend to spin powdery.

Program names differ by model. The original models carry Ice Cream, Lite Ice Cream, Sorbet, Milkshake, Mix-in and Re-spin, and most versions add Gelato and Smoothie Bowl. The Deluxe adds programs such as Frozen Yogurt, Italian Ice, Slushi, Frozen Drink and Creamiccino. The Swirl adds soft serve programs. Your control panel and quick start guide are the final word.

A pint that comes out powdery or crumbly is common after the first spin, especially with lean or very cold bases. Press Re-spin; if it is still powdery, add 1 to 2 tablespoons of milk or base and Re-spin again.

Common mistakes

  • Filling above the MAX line.
  • Freezing the pint on a slant, so the top freezes as a ridge or hump.
  • Spinning a pint that has not frozen for the full 24 hours.
